SUPREME COURT OF LOUISIANA
NO. 2023-B-0632
IN RE: RICARDO A. CABALLERO
ATTORNEY DISCIPLINARY PROCEEDING
PER CURIAM
On June 21, 2023, we suspended respondent from the practice of law for one
year and one day, with all but ninety days deferred, followed by a two -year period
of supervised probation with conditions, based upon allegations that he mishandled
his client trust account . In re: Caballero , 23-0632 (La. 6/21/23), 362 So. 3d 404.
Respondent’s probation agreement included a requirement that he submit to the
Office of Disciplinary Counsel (“ODC”), on a semi-annual basis, a CPA’s written
report of audits of the trust account .
The ODC and respondent have now filed a joint motion seeking to extend
respondent’s probation for an additional two-year period. In support, they assert the
extension is warranted to address issues uncovered during the prior trust account
audits.
The requested extension is appropriate under the facts. Accordingly, we will
extend respondent’s probation for an additional two years, subject to all conditions
of probation imposed by our June 21, 2023 order and by respondent’s probation
agreement.
DECREE
Considering the Joint Motion to Extend Probation filed by the ODC and
respondent, Ricardo A. Caballero, also known as Rick A. Caballero, Louisiana Bar
Roll number 1744, it is ordered that the two-year period of supervised probation
2
imposed upon respondent in In re: Caballero , 23-0632 (La. 6/21/23), 362 So. 3d
404, be extended for a period of two years. All conditions of probation imposed by
our June 21, 2023 order and by respondent’s probation agreement shall remain in
full force and effect during the extended probationary period . Any failure of
respondent to comply with th ese conditions , or any other misconduct during the
probationary period, may be grounds for revocation of probation and the imposition
of the previously deferred portion of the suspension, or other discipline, as
appropriate .
