STATE OF LOUISIANA
COURT OF APPEAL, FIRST CIRCUIT

JEFE HUGHES NO. 2026 CW 1098
VERSUS
CAPITAL CITY PRESS, L.L.C AUGUST 24, 2026

D/B/A THE ADVOCATE

In Re: Capital City Press, L.L.c. d/b/a The Advocate, Peter
Kovacs, and Danny Heitman, applying for supervisory
writs, 18th Judicial District Court, Parish of
Tberville, No. 79978.

BEFORE: THERIOT, GREENE, AND FIELDS, JJ.

WRIT DENIED ON THE SHOWING MADE. A motion for a directed
verdict is appropriately granted when, after considering all of
the evidence in the light and with all reasonable inferences most
favorable to the movant’s opponent, it is clear that the facts and
inferences point so overwhelmingly in favor of granting the
verdict, that reasonable jurors could not arrive at a contrary
verdict. Walker v. Louisiana Health Management Co., 94-1396 (La.
App. ist Cir. 12/15/95), 666 So.2d 415, 421, writ denied, 96-0571
(La. 4/19/96), 671 So.2d 922. However, if there is substantial
evidence opposed to the motion, that is, evidence of such a quality
and weight that reasonable and fair-minded men exercising
impartial judgment might reach different conclusions, the motion
should be denied, and the case should be submitted to the jury.
Id. Although relators seek review of the denial of their Motion
for Directed Verdict, they have not provided this court with a
full transcript of the trial testimony and the evidence submitted
by the plaintiff.
